UVS VOLUNTEERS
ARE HELPING VETERANS IN A
VA HOSPITAL NEAR YOU.
United Voluntary Services is a national service organization committed to recruiting volunteers and raising funds to help meet the needs of hospitalized veterans in Veterans Affairs Medical Centers throughout the nation, thereby strengthening the human spirit and quality of life for these veterans. We are a non-profit corporation, whose mission is......."never having to say NO" to any worthwhile request for a veteran from a VA Medical Center anywhere in the USA.
In 1941 Helen Lengfeld, the first woman elected to the Califormia Golf Hall of Fame, formed the United Voluntary Services. Started as the American Women Volunteer Services that operated canteens disbursing coffee and sandwiches to young GI's riding the trains to and from the battle fields during WWII.
Today the canteens are gone, having been replaced by push carts, with volunteers dispersing encouraging and friendly conversation along with much needed personal items. The volunteers operate gift shops, conduct bingo games, host golf tournaments, put on picnics for July the 4th, wrap gifts for the Christmas Party, and help the veterans in many ways to get them back with their loved ones.
United Voluntary Services is a non-profit, charitable organization with 44 units in VA Hospitals and Medical Centers across the United States, and Puerto Rico. These units provide for the comfort needs of veterans not covered by the Federal Government. Our primary goal is service to hospitallized veterans, and our volunteers work in numerous programs and activities that benefit veterans from World War II to returning veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq .
100% of all donations go directly to support veteran's activities and UVS has no paid staff. We have thousands of volunteers in 43 VA Hospitals and Medical Clinics and you can become part of this team. We are always seeking additional volunteers to help with veteran patient activities, and with local fund raisers.
THANKS FOR YOUR DONATION AND SUPPORT
Join us in helping them. Your volunteering and donations are appreciated by the veterans. They volunteered for us, now we can volunteer for them.
Our major source of funding is generated from the Hillsbourgh Antique Shows which we own and are held three times a year in the San Francisco Bay area. This event was originated by Helen Lengfeld as a means to fund the efforts of the United Voluntary Services. All profits from the antigue shows go to support the veterans in VA Hospitals and Medical Clinics. If you are visiting in the area make this show a stop on your visit.
